Twenty years in financial services, thirteen running our own business
We started Thornton Green in 2012. It's a New Zealand consultancy that delivers technology and AI work for financial services firms, and automation for small businesses.
Before that, twenty years in banking and insurance, over a decade of them with European and North American clients across Lloyd's and company markets. The organisations we've worked in or for include RSA, Zurich, Zurich Re, Amlin, Liberty Syndicates, ACE, Mitsui, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Marsh and Westpac. That work covered underwriting and reinsurance data, business intelligence, enterprise architecture, global CRM delivery, and integration after acquisition.
Since 2012 we've run our own digital finance and insurance business in New Zealand: vehicle finance, personal loans, SME lending, mortgages and insurance. We built the platform, the CRM, the compliance controls and the AI sitting on top of them. When the stack reached end of life, we replaced it and kept trading through the switch.
That's the mix that matters. We understand how a large regulated organisation reaches a decision, and we know what it costs a small team to actually carry one out.
